In the 1990s, the Nordic countries were among the very few that managed to show that you could boost your economy whilst reducing carbon emissions at the same time. Finding ways of achieving carbon-free economic growth has become the key issue both for developed and emerging countries in light of the present climate agreement. As a result of this, the Nordic countries got quite a bit of attention and recognition in the context of the recent Paris talks both from the organiser country as well as the International Energy Agency.
Nordic environment and climate ministers came out with a joint declaration before COP21 and its main message was the desire to see an ambitious and legally binding climate agreement that involves all important parties.
