The Nordic Council of Ministers' Office in Estonia is organising this year's Creativity Forum, entitled 'Creative Self-Expression', with the Narva College of the University of Tartu.
Director of the Narva College of the University of Tartu Katrin Raik: "It's good for teachers and their trainers to meet before the start of the school year and to learn from one another. It's interesting to hear about the experience of our neighbouring countries and to do so in a somewhat different environment – Narva."
Everybody needs creativity to cope in a rapidly changing living, learning and working environment. Creative and unusual ideas and personalities are those that inspire new solutions, giving birth to new products and services.
To understand creative teaching and creativity as such, as well as to encourage its practical implementation, the Nordic Council of Ministers' Office in Estonia launched the international Creativity Forum in 2012, which was carried out for the first time under the title 'Creativity Changes the World' and last year under the title 'Creativity Stimulates the Senses'.
The main speaker at the 2014 Creativity Forum, 'Creative Self-Expression', will be Nikky Smedley from the United Kingdom. Many people all over the world know Smedley best from the kids' show 'Teletubbies', in which she was the voice of Laa-Laa. Smedley is also a renowned expert on creative thinking and communication in business, industry and education, and she has also shared her ideas in the TedEx series of events.
Drama teacher and therapist Sigríður Birna Valsdóttir from Iceland will share her more than 15 years of experience in combining creative methods and therapy in schools. She will also teach teachers how to use acting to fight bullying.

The press are welcome to attend the opening of the Creativity Forum at 12.30 on 18 August in the Narva College of the University of Tartu. Irene Käosaar from the Estonian Ministry of Education and Research will present a summary of the most important ideas and activities discussed at the forum at 15.30 on 19 August. The press are also welcome to listen to the presentations and take part in the workshops of the forum, where they can speak to the speakers and the participants.
