We throw out food worth billions. As part of their efforts to address the problem, the UN and the Nordic Council of Ministers have organized a Nordic-Baltic poster competition. The winner was a Latvian graphical designer Marta Zarina-Gelze with "The last wish was to be eaten".

The winning poster features a portion of French fries laid to rest on an open coffin. She explains that her inspiration was the fact that 30% of all food produced is wasted. "I wanted to make a strong emotional statement, so I chose a coffin instead of a bin. We are only alive because of the food that we eat, so why do we throw so much of it out?" she asked.

According to a recent UN report, food worth over DKK 4.000 billion is wasted every year around the world. One-third of all food produced is wasted and up to half of all potential foodstuffs never make it from field to table.
15 posters, including two from Estonia were presented in the final of the Nordic-Baltic poster competition "Think-Eat-Save". The public's choice was a poster from Iceland by Thórdís Claessen.
