The broader goals of the NCM's grants are to promote cooperation between Nordic and Baltic countries to harmonise development in the region and strengthen joint competitiveness in the world. The grants mostly cover travel and accommodation expenses as well as daily allowances. Read more about the grants here.
As an introduction to the information events, the NCM Office in Estonia and Narva City Government, Pärnu County Government and Valga County Government will sign a one-year cooperation agreement. "We want to include all of the regions of Estonia in cooperation with the Nordic countries," said Berth Sundström, the director of the NCM Office in Estonia.
In 1971 the Nordic governments decided to establish the NCM in order to strengthen cooperation and make it more efficient. The Estonian Office of the NCM opened its doors in spring 1991. In the early years, cooperation between Estonia and the Nordic countries was mostly characterised by one-directional granting and receiving of assistance, but it has now grown into an equal partnership – as specified in the cooperation guidelines of the NCM and the Baltic States, which were updated this year.
The NCM Office in Estonia helps implement projects that are based on Nordic values and priorities and which have shared interests with Estonia. The areas of activity include the green economy, the creative economy, the welfare society (e.g. gender equality and fighting against human trafficking), research and innovation and culture.
