Nordic-Baltic public sector cooperation support to continue in new format in 2014

Monday, 09 December 2013

The Nordic-Baltic Mobility Programme for Public Administration, which has received more and more applications over the last five years, will continue in 2014, but under new terms and conditions.

The size of the required co-financing will increase from 2014 – 35% of the eligible budget of a project next year and 40% from 2015. The second change in the new guidelines is the size of the group in the case of group applications – up to eight officials.

The Nordic-Baltic Mobility Programme for Public Administration supports the study visits, work placement trips and network meetings of officials and other public sector workers, thereby contributing to cooperation between the Nordic countries and Baltic States at the level of ministries, regional offices and local governments.

The objective of the ca 300,000-euro support is to promote the exchange of knowledge and experience at all levels of public administration in the shared interests of the Nordic countries and Baltic States (the NB8 – Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden and Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania), thereby contributing to the development of the public sector in the region.

The programme will cover up to 65% of the travel and accommodation costs and daily allowances of projects in 2014. The participation of at least three NB8 countries in a planned project is one of the key prerequisites for being considered for support.

The support programme is coordinated by Madis Kanarbik, head of the Tartu branch of the Nordic Council of Ministers' Office in Estonia. He said that the first period of the programme from 2009-2013 can be considered a success. "Hundreds of officials from the Nordic countries and Baltic States have exchanged their experiences with the programme's support every year," he explained. "The steering group of the programme found our results to be excellent."

The next application deadline is 30 March 2014. Further information can be found and applications can be submitted on the programme's updated website from the end of January at www.nb8grants.org.
