Several renowned Nordic experts will speak at the 'National Literature in the 21st Century: Insights and Perspectives' forum being held as part of the Tallinn Book Fair at the Estonian National Library on 5 April. Guest speakers include Katarina Gäddnäs (Åland, pictured), Søren Vinterberg (Denmark) and Johan Unenge (Sweden).
"The nature and the place of literature have changed, as have a great many values and beliefs in this rapidly changing world, and we are using new terminology, acting in new ways and using new tools," said Eha Vain, Cultural Adviser at the Nordic Council of Ministers' Office in Estonia, about why the forum is being organised. What are the unique features of the literature of small nations? What do Nordic and Baltic literature have in common? What guarantees the viability of literature? How are words born and used by authors? These are just some of the topics that will be open for discussion at the first Nordic-Baltic Literature Forum.
More information about the topics and speakers is available here.
The organisers of the literature forum – the Nordic Council of Ministers' offices in the Baltic States – believe in the power of words, which unites and inspires, supports and gives us energy to move forward. The idea for the forum came from Nordic Library Week, which showcases literature and culture. Librarians, authors, translators, publishers, teachers and book distributors are welcome to attend the forum.
Attendance is free of charge, but registration is required by 3 April 2013 (contact This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.).
