UN’s Mercury Conference – preparation for a global agreement on Mercury Finished

Contact info: Triin Oppi (triin.oppi@norden.ee)

The Nordic countries, within the framework of the Nordic Council of Ministers, have long had a driving role in the international work to limit the use of mercury. All the Nordic countries have introduced strict restrictions on the use of mercury. However, it is not enough for the Nordic Region to clean up its own backyard – mercury is a cross-border problem which demands global solutions.

The Nordic Council of Ministers is financing the first negotiating meeting for a global agreement on limiting the use of mercury. Sweden is hosting the UN conference which is being organised outside Stockholm in Upplands Väsby.
