The Nordic Council of Ministers’ Office in Estonia will be opening a branch office in Narva in February so as to more actively introduce the Nordic countries in Ida-Viru County, organise cultural events and play a greater role in current topical debates.

"We want to make the Nordic way of life better known also in East of Estonia. In order to do that we need to be more actively present in Narva. We want to meet and talk to people," explained Christer Haglund, the director of the Nordic Council of Ministers’ Office in Estonia.

Jevgeni Timoštšuk has been recruited as local programme coordinator for the Nordic Narva branch of the Nordic Council of Ministers’ Office in Estonia. Office space will be shared with the Narva studio of the Estonian Public Broadcaster’s Russian-language TV-channel ETV+. The branch will be open for public from 23 February (Puškin str 19, Narva).

"Cooperation with the Nordic Council of Ministers’ Office in Estonia will help us to fulfil our idea about TV studio as cultural centre, where art exhibitions, seminars and meetings with writers and artists will take place and everyone interested could visit the studio also during daytime," commented Darja Saar, editor in chief of ETV+.

The Nordic Council of Ministers opened its Estonian office in 1991 and is celebrating 25th anniversary this year. In addition to its main office in Tallinn, it has one branch in Tartu and another in Narva. The Estonian office has been working closely together with Valga and Pärnu County Governments and Narva Youth Centre, with whom cooperation will continue in the future.
